New Order
This function enables user to create an order for new satellite imagery using defined criteria.
The following criteria are used to define the requirements for your imagery:
- Area of interest
- Time window for which imagery is required
- The type of imagery required
The first stage of making a new order is defining a new area of interest or loading an existing area of interest.
Existing Area of Interest
An existing Area of Interest can be selected from the drop down menu. The map will then centre on that Area of Interest.
Define Area of Interest
To define a new area of interest, use the search function at the top left of the page to search for the general area. This search can use several criteria:
- Name of town
- Address
- Postcode
- Latitude and Longitude
The map will then centre on that location.
The area of interest can be further defined in 4 different ways, using the icons displayed at the top of the page.
- The hand tool is used to pan the map page. The mouse wheel can be used to zoom in and out. This can also be done using the navigation tools at the bottom right of the page.
- The square tool is used to define a square or rectangular area of interest by dragging the shape out on the map screen, starting from a corner.
- The circle tool is used to define a circular area of interest by dragging the shape out on the map screen, starting with the central point on the circle and then dragging out the radius of the circle.
- The points tool is used to define a polygonal or irregularly shaped area of interest. This is defined by clicking a series of points to define the outer edge of the area of interest and then returning to click on the first point. For best results this should be a solid shape.
- The input button allows for area of interest to be defined more precisely, using coordinates or GeoJSON.
- Coordinates are defined using the latitude and longitude of the centre point and the radius of the area of interest, resulting in a circular area of interest.
- Valid GeoJSON is supported.
- Once you have input one of these options, click Done to refine the area of interest.
- The save button allows you to save the defined area of interest for future use. Each Area of Interest must have valid coordinates along with a name and brief description of the area.
Define enquiry time and date
Once an area of interest has been defined, the next step is defining the time that you would like imagery to be captured. Select a date and/or time from the menu.
- All times in SpaceAye are displayed in UTC format.
- If you select a time or date in the past, you will be offered archive imagery, where available. This imagery will cover some or all of the defined area of interest but may not cover the entire area of interest. It may be necessary to order multiple archive images to cover the entire area.
- If you select the current time or a time and date in the future, you will be offered one or more upcoming tasking opportunities to capture new imagery.
Once you are satisfied that the Area of Interest and Time are defined correctly, click send to submit your enquiry. The SpaceAye platform will then search multiple satellite providers for tasking opportunities or existing imagery that meets your requirements. This process may take several minutes but you do not need to wait for the results. All results can be retrieved at a later point from the History section of the main menu.
Enquiry Results
A completed enquiry will look like this. It shows:
- The coordinates of the Area of Interest
- The total area of the Area of Interest in square kilometres
- The request submission time and date in UTC
- The request submission time and date in the local time zone of the Area of Interest
- Your area of interest displayed on the map
- A list of available imagery or tasking opportunities
Each result shows the following quick reference icons:
- Cloud cover projection
- Green = 0 - 33% cloud cover
- Yellow = 34 – 66% cloud cover
- Red = 66%+ cloud
- Incidence angles. This is how far from the vertical the satellite is at the time of capture, where 0 degrees is directly overhead. High incidence angles can result in distortions or obscured imagery.
- Green = 0-20 degrees
- Yellow = 20-40 degrees
- Red = 40+ degrees
- TIME TBD
- Archive images are clearly marked
Each result can be expanded by clicking the downward arrow. Each result shows the following information:
- Image type
- Optical
- SAR
- Multispectral
- Resolution
- Capture time and date in UTC
- Cloud Cover
- Incidence angle
- Price in SpaceAye Credits
Clicking the Order button will add the selected imagery to the basket for later purchase.
